Days of Belgrade / Dani Beograda
Festival Days of Belgrade, as the name suggests, are dedicated to the city of Belgrade. They are held every year between the 16th and 19th of April. This event is related to two important dates. The first is April 16, 878, when the Slovenian name of Belgrade for the first time mentioned in the writings of Pope John VIII to the Bulgarian prince Boris. Another important date on 19 April 1867, when the Turkish commander Ali Riza Pasha symbolically handed over the keys of the city to Prince Mihailo. During the festival, organized various cultural events in the city.
BELEF – Belgrade Summer Festival
This is a free international festival, which promotes theater, music, dance, visual art, performance and installation. After 20 successful years, 2012 Belef a step further and developed into even bigger cultural event, which has now lasted two and a half months (from late May to mid-August). As a “festival of festivals” Belef connects the different events that are organized throughout the year, which means that once again shows some of the already successfully organized music, film and multidisciplinary festivals. All together, over a period of two and a half months, Belef organizes more than 30 concerts, film festivals, thematic exhibitions and other interesting events.
Night of Museums
Night of Museums is an event of great cultural and tourist importance, which takes place in over 120 cities worldwide. The aim of the event is to create a habit in people, especially young people, to visit museums and thus create a new museum fans and increase the presence of such institutions in the media. A few years ago, Belgrade joined the world’s cities, and since then visitors can annually can visit various exhibitions and programs until the wee hours. Using only one card for all sites, you will have the opportunity to visit many cultural institutions that are usually closed to the public. What’s more, varied entertainment program is organized around the city.
The film festival FEST existed since 1971. It used to be the biggest film festival in Yugoslavia, now Serbia. In recent decades, the festival has attracted many Hollywood and European film stars. The program of the festival is always interesting, and place of events is always the same – the congress hall of the Sava Center. FEST is the most visited and the most popular festival among the Belgrade audience. The program, in addition to the inevitable blockbuster, is the artistic and low-budget films from many countries around the world.
Bitef is a festival with a long tradition (since 1967) and is of great international importance. It focuses on the latest trends in the theater, and over the years has become one of the largest and most important European festivals. Held in September.
International Folklore Festival
Internacionalni festival folklora se održava u julu na Kalemegdanu. Festival predstavlja ovdašnje i međunarodne folklorne ansamble koji izvode tradicionalne plesove i pesme iz svojih zemalja.
International Folklore Festival is held in July at Kalemegdan. Festival presents local and international folk ensembles that perform traditional dances and songs from their countries.
Open Heart Street / Ulica otvorenog srca
Open Heart Street is one of the best events in town, and is held every January 1st. The former internal custom Atelier 212 actors to work once a year instead of a waiter at a nearby cafe (Serbian tavern), slowly turned into a traditional festival that brings together the humanitarian famous people, actors, singers, all of Belgrade and Belgrade guests who want to help others. From early morning until late afternoon, participants are having fun in a real carnival atmosphere that only an additional “seasoning” festive atmosphere on the first day of the new year.
Belgrade Marathon has existed since 1988, and over the years has gained international importance and attracts runners of different ages from all over the world. The marathon consists of three races: Race pleasure, half marathon and marathon.
Guitar Art Festival
Guitar Art Festival is an international festival of classical and modern music, competitive nature. This festival brings together in one place guitarists of all musical styles and guitar lovers have the chance to enjoy the music and master classes world’s most famous guitarists.
Beer Fest – Beer Festival, is a recognized music and beer festival, which in 2010 brought together around 900,000 visitors. Every year, Beer Fest is becoming bigger and bigger. At this festival, you can enjoy a variety of musical genres from folk music, through rock, pop, jazz and blues. While listening to music, you can try different beers from local and international breweries.
Belgrade Jazz Festival
Belgrade Jazz Festival was founded in 1971 and was originally a branch of the famous Newport Jazz Festival. Belgrade has had the honor to host almost all significant jazz musicians. During the nineties, the festival has ended its work, and again resumed in 2006. It is held every year in October.
Exit Festival is one of the most popular music festivals in Europe and is being held at the Petrovaradin fortress in Novi Sad. While Exit is not in Belgrade, many tourists on their way to Novi Sad Jump to seize the opportunity and to Belgrade, given that cities are from each other only an hour’s drive or an hour and a half if you go by bus or train. If you do not find accommodation in Novi Sad, one of the solutions is to stay in Belgrade, given that the festival organizers provide everyone with a ticket bus service between Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Guca festival in Guca ,Trumpet Festival, a traditional event that was held for years in the town of Guca, in western Serbia, in the region Dragačevo. Featured Dragačevos trumpets are actually leitmotif of the festival. Over a million visitors each year, in the summer, usually in mid-August, comes to Guca to have an unforgettable time. The sound of the trumpet, traditionally, in this part of Serbia, follows almost every major event: weddings, celebrations of b-days, baptisms and sundry joy. First Dragačevo Festival was held on 16 October 1961. Festvala history marked by various trumpet star, which from year to year, raising the quality of the festival to an enviable level.
